Nottingham Irish Golf Society |
A brief history..... |
The Nottingham Irish Golfing Society was founded in November 1991. The brainchild of Eamonn Gavigan who did most of the behind the scenes work to get the show on the road. The first meeting was held in the Irish Centre, Nottingham and was attended by about forty people, most of whom joined the society. Almost twice that size now and still based in the Irish centre where its many trophies are housed, the Society continues to grow. The society meets monthly and holds nine competitions and four annual society events, including the annual dinner dance at which the society's trophies are presented. It is now playing an increasingly important role within the local community and over the past eight years has raised over £175,000 for the Kidney Research Unit at the City Hospital, Nottingham, mainly from the Padric Sweeney Golf Day. |
